Elements Of Aikido Training
In society today, it is easy to become lazy and self-indulgent. The body becomes weak through prolonged inactivity. The many distractions of modern life can cause a person to become confused about and separated from the true nature of one’s life. Disciplined training (tanren) creates a path to overcome these tendencies and distractions.
Each Aikido technique contains the principles of its philosophy. From a martial perspective, Aikido emphisises neutralizing the attack, unbalancing the opponent, and applying strength against weakness to bring an attack to an immediate conclusion, using the appropriate throw, hold or pin to subdue the attacker. Students seek to achieve a relaxed, centered body through which natural power can flow. The cumulative effect of consistent, dedicated practice is the uniting of mind, body and spirit into a stronger, more confident and aware individual.
