How Aikido Is Practiced
As there is no competitions in Aikido, practitioners can free themselves from the false labels of winner and looser and focus on mutually beneficial goals. Each person is able to train and progress at his/her own pace. Students find satisfaction from individual and group growth and development.
The Japanese word for training, keiko, (literally tracing the old) offers an insight into the Aikido training method. Keiko is more than just the physical repetition of movements. It is physical action coupled with the proper spirit and attitude. Students seek to follow the example of their teachers, and in turn provide a role model for junior students.
