Weapons Training

During his lifetime, the Founder was renowned throughout Japan for his swordsmanship. His study of traditional weapons systems informed and influenced his creation of Aikido. We continue this tradition with instruction in the Bokken (wooden sword), Jyo (staff) and Tanto (knife). Weapons training intensifies and amplifies the principles of aikido. Correct distances, lines of attack and defense, timing and concentration are brought into sharp focus through this practice.

All students can participate in weapons classes. Instruction in Japanese Swordsmanship (Iaido) is limited to students who gain permission from the Chief Instructor.
